SaMBA 33 - Music in the School

PS33 nearly lost its music program in 2013, as a result of budget cuts. A group of parents stepped in to work with Principal Lindy to bring Third Street Music School Settlement—one of the top music education programs in the city—to our school. With an offer to match pledges dollar-for dollar up to $40,000, the SaMBA 33 Fundraising Challenge successfully brought in enough funds to pay for Third Street’s services for the 2013-14 school year.

Sustaining and Enriching the Program

We will need to sustain this great program – the costs of which will increase next year – and support related enrichment programs for our students in the coming years. Are you a musician? Know anyone in the music industry? Know anyone who knows anyone in the music industry? Do you simply care about your kid having a music program as part of their education? Then volunteer for the SaMBA 33 Committee, and together we can create fun, effective fundraising events to continue to fund the best music program for our kids!

Bonus

As part of our partnership, The Third Street Music School Settlement offers free classes to PS33 students. For more information, go to http://www.thirdstreetmusicschool.org/programs_partnerships.htm. That means a FREE weekly group class at their location for 32 weeks (instrument, dance, singing, etc) during your first year of enrollment, and then a fee of approximately $300/ year for a class during the subsequent years.
