FAQs

  1. What is the Parent Teacher Association?
The PS33 Chelsea Prep PTA is an integral part of the PS33 Chelsea Prep School. It engages in activities that enrich the education of our students and promote good home, school, and community relations among our students, families, teaching staff, and school administrators.
  2. How do I join the PTA?
You already did! All parents/guardians and teachers of PS33 Chelsea Prep students are automatically members of the PTA.
  3. Do I have to pay dues?
No, the PTA does not require membership dues. However, we do encourage all members to contribute to the Annual Giving Family Fund, which allows the PTA to provide critical support to our school. We greatly appreciate any contribution to this fund, and encourage families to give what they can. No amount is too large or too small. Our goal is to raise $1,500 per student.
  4. Can I attend PTA meetings?
Absolutely, and we hope you do. General Meetings are typically held at 9:15 AM on the first Friday of every month, unless otherwise noted. Attending meetings is the best way to get informed about what’s going on at school, and the only way to cast your vote on budgetary decisions, elections, and other important school issues that affect your child.
  5. How does the PTA make decisions?
The Executive Board, elected by PTA members, makes decisions on an ongoing basis and brings matters requiring a vote to the general body at General PTA Meetings once a month. A quorum is required at both these meetings in order to vote on official business. Elections are held in May. A Nomination Committee—open to anyone (except current EB members or people who wish to stand for election) solicits nominations for the Executive Board.
  6. Is the PTA the same thing as the SLT?
No, they are different organizations. The School Leadership Team (SLT) is a school-based organization that determines the structure for school-based planning and shared decision-making. At PS33, the PTA's president sits ex officio on the SLT, and the PTA elects parent members, but the SLT is an entirely separate body. It has equal representation from each constituency – administration, teachers and parents—and meets at least once a month.
