Volunteer Spot

In addition to sending home notices in backpacks, the PTA uses an online system for volunteering. Look for the Volunteer Spot link in PTA notices and emails. You will need to enter your email address to sign up for an event. Once you select your time slot, VolunteerSpot will send you an automated confirmation and reminders.

VolunteerSpot does not share your email address with anyone. If you’d prefer not to use the online system, you can always contact the PTA office to find out about volunteering for a specific event.

How Can I Help?

Parent involvement at home and at school is a crucial part of a PS33 Chelsea Prep education. Parent volunteers help make every school event possible. We bake, we make signs, we take tickets, we find items for auction, we fix stuff that’s broken, we help supervise kids, we line up entertainment, we do paperwork, we create new educational opportunities for our children. Volunteer time and effort makes our school great. When you volunteer you make a big difference, for your child, for staff and administration, and for our school community as a whole.

  • Talk to us: Stop by the PTA office or email ps33pta@gmail.com, to the attention of the Membership Secretary, to tell us about your interests, skills and availability for volunteering. We have volunteer opportunities available during daytime or evening hours--you can even volunteer from home. Any time you can give is greatly appreciated!
  • Get involved: Come to PTA meetings and school events and see for yourself what our school needs. Participate in your child's classroom. Many teachers welcome parent visits and field trip chaperones. Help organize an event or just volunteer at lunch time. Everything helps. (Note: the PTA does not coordinate lunchtime volunteers. Please contact Parent Coordinator Hanne Kjeldgaard at 347-563-5240 if you are interested.)
  • Reach out: Do you have friends or business associates who can help our school with their time, money or expertise? Our school community is enriched by relationships that parents help forge. In the past, we’ve gotten help from welders, artists, musicians, tech experts, corporations, banks, restaurants, local businesses and more. You’d be surprised how willing people are to lend a hand. Contact the Fundraising Committee for our official solicitation letter and advice on how to approach potential sponsors.
  • Contribute: We welcome contributions of any size, shape or color! Time, money, skill, school supplies, scrap. You give it, we will take it. Dance or Run or Swim to raise money for the school. Spare change from your pocket. Be it small or big, we welcome all contributions wholeheartedly.
  • Class Parent: Class Parents are a critical link between teachers and their classroom families, as well as between the PTA Executive Board and the broader parent community. When you volunteer to be a Class Parent, you will have a direct impact on your child’s classroom and get more involved in issues that affect the school as a whole. All Class Parents are selected by teachers just after the start of school in the fall.
  • PTA Executive Board: Run for a position on the PTA Executive Board. You will have a vote on important PTA decisions, such as how PTA funding is designated to support school projects and needs.
  • Committees: Join or run a PTA committee. See the Committee page to find out how to get involved.
